About Centreville Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Our Instructors, Students and History Serving Fairfax, NOVA, Gainesville, Manassas, Leesburg and Warrenton, VA
Professor Scott started attending the University of CT in 1988. In search of a new hobby, he noticed flyers for Rugby, Lacrosse, and Judo. He opted for judo and took the first of many steps on a grappling mat. Scott trained in the art of judo first under Professor Andrew Yiannakis earning his black belt in 1993. He then traveled to Tokyo, Japan where he continued his training in judo from 1995-1997. Upon returning to the States, he continued training Judo in NOVA under Professor Maurice Allen until 2003. At that time, he was introduced to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Master Leo Dalla. Scott traveled to Master Leo Dalla’s academy in Woodbridge, VA for many years eventually earning his second black belt in 2013.
Eventually, the trek to Woodbrige became harder with a wife and new son. In November of 2017 Centreville BJJ opened their doors. Coach Robbie Cecil was on the mat day one and has been an integral part of the growth and success of Centreville BJJ. Both Scott and Robbie are teachers (Scott a math teacher in a local high school and Robbie a Science teacher in a local middle school). They both use their knowledge of BJJ, along with their educational degrees and numerous years in the classroom to offer expert instruction in the art of grappling.
We at Centreville BJJ recognize the numerous benefits of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We believe It has the capacity to dramatically and positively change lives. Because of these many benefits of BJJ, it is our mission to offer a fun, safe and healthy training environment for everyone to learn, practice and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
